Visiting the South Carolina Coast
Communities along the South Carolina coast enjoy a milder winter than much of the country. Balmy breezes make it easy to relax one of the region’s beautiful beaches and there’s plenty more to see and do inland as well. From Myrtle Beach to Charleston to Beaufort, all sorts of special events, festivals, and family-friendly activities await this season’s visitors.
Parents may want to leave the kids behind on February 27th, when the 2016 Charleston Brewvival brings live music, specialty food offerings, and, of course, plenty of craft beers, to the Coast Brewing Company in North Charleston.
Kids and adults alike will get a kick out of the 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival in North Myrtle Beach on March 12th. It all starts at 9 a.m., when a festive parade paints Main Street green, and the family-friendly fun continues with a variety of live entertainment, festival food, unique vendors, and more.
Myrtle Beach visitors can keep the party going all week with the 2016 Canadian-American Days Festival. Venues across town, including Myrtle Beach’s Grand Stand, host a variety of activities – everything from sporting events and concerts to historical tours and more, March 12th through 20th. Check the schedule during your visit for individual event times.
Taking its name from King Charles II, the Merry Monarch himself, Charleston is rich with centuries-old history – and mild winter weather means it’s a great time to explore the city’s countless historic and cultural focal points on foot. First timers would be remiss not to tour attractions like Historic Charleston, The Citadel, and Fort Sumter National Monument.
Charleston also lays claim to a variety of cultural traditions visitors might not expect. On April 3rd, the 2016 Lowcountry Cajun festival brings a taste of Louisiana to James Island County Park. The all-day fun features live live Zydeco music, Cajun and Creole cuisine, fun for the little ones, and more.
